TOMB RAIDER eclipses global franchise record with over 8.5 million copies sold

We all knew Crystal Dynamics reboot of Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success but how big a success in the IP’s history has not been know until now. Square Enix have announced that 2013’s Tomb Raider has eclipsed sales of all other series installments with over 8.5 Million copies sold.

Today you can pick up Tomb Raider on PS4 for only £9.99 as part of their Easter sales promotions.

In a Press release Square Enix said the following: “Crystal Dynamics, a Square Enix studio, today announced that the award-winning TOMB RAIDER® (2013) has sold more than 8.5 million copies worldwide, more than any other game in the legendary Tomb Raider franchise’s history. Originally released in March 2013, the game also set franchise sales records for its first day and month.”

What this means for Crystal Dynamics and their upcoming exclusivity agreement on Xbox One is interesting based on these results. Stay tuned for more Tomb Raider news as we get closer to launch this year on the second installment.

Multi-platforms obviously had something to do with this. Again makes me question why they went Microsoft exclusive with new title when the rebooted franchise was doing so very well.
